Rob and Bradd were busy over the Family Day Weekend, as they are flooded the ice surface and performing Ice maintenance Sunday February 17th and Monday February 18th. They also textured the running surface of the rocks with sandpaper so the rocks will curl aggressively for a few weeks. Please use a positive release with several rotations. Aim for 4 or 5 full rotations as your rock travels down the sheet. Otherwise if you throw with little or no handle the rock will curl excessively as it loses speed.
Reasons for texturing stones for the last part of the season. Curl comes from the stones and not from dishing or shaping the surface of ice we play on. Over the course of the season and with regular play, stones running surface start to smooth and we start to lose the curl we expect. Being that Dundas Valley Golf and Curling club is in the last have of the season, I want to make sure we have proper curl for the last series’s and going in to all of our playoffs. By doing the rocks last week, the aggressiveness of the stones will be gone in the next week or two and DV will be left with great curl for the last part of the season and our amazing playoffs.
See you all on the ice!
Thank you
