Nov 3 – 6, 2020 DV Day Ladies Update
It is finally time to start curling and I’m looking forward to meeting the 18 curlers who are joining Dundas Valley Day Ladies this year. Three are brand new curlers and the rest are joining us from other Dundas Valley sections or from other clubs.
*We exceeded our 50 member bubble so we split our Tuesday into 2 draws. Using the information from the questionnaire, I tried to give everyone the time slot they wanted, taking into account car poolers and last minute requests, and have 8 teams for the 9:15 draw and 5 teams for the 12 noon draw. If we get a few more curlers we can even out that second draw. I used your questionnaire answers for position placement but some people have ended up playing at a lower ranking due to the numbers of curlers.
*Marg reports that our Friday draw is also doing well and only need a few more people to make 10 full teams. We only have a couple of spares for each Tuesday/Friday draw so there is a possibility that you may be curling on a 3 person team some games. I will send out the Draw sheets separately from the Update.
*If you got an email from me earlier in the week saying that you joined an e-mail group, I accidently sent something out while I was organizing my new group email.
*Locker assignments will be sent out from the office on Monday as the lockers had to sanitized after the golfers vacated. The entry door to the locker room will not be locked so you do not need a code to enter anymore.
*When you enter the club, you will need to hold your tracing code (paper or phone) BEHIND the upper left hand sideof the scanning tablet. The tablet will show your name when it has successfully scanned your code.
*There may be some changes to the Entry to the Ice plan as Rob is looking for the safest, fastest way to manage this. Sheets 1, 3 and 5 will now begin play at the end closest to the glass and Sheets 2 and 4 will begin at the far end. Rob will be there on Tuesday to help out with entry and game.
*Sheets 3, 4 and 5 will congregate inside the curling lounge and wait facing away from the glass, then use the door farthest from the bar to enter on to the ice. Sheet 4 will drop off purses and water bottles and walk to the far end.
Sheets 2 and 1 will congregate outside the lounge and enter the lounge as the other teams leave. They will walk past the bar and exit through the door closest to the bar and onto the ice. Sheet 2 will drop off purses and water bottle and then walk to the far end.
*Skips will do Rock, Paper Scissors while waiting to enter ice. Winning skip chooses which team throws first and losing skip chooses rock colour.
*Vice of the Yellow rocks team on each sheet marks the score for the entire game with the marker on the plexiglass scoreboard and sends the final score for that to Lorraine – text or email.
*We will be using a time clock this year. The ice tech will start the clock as he leaves the ice. Games begin as soon as teams are ready and stop when the buzzer goes (2 hours) even if the end is not completed. Push your own rocks back to wherever you started, then exit the ice and proceed to the locker room. Please try to leave the locker room with your coats as quickly as possible (15 minutes) and go upstairs to the Stanley Thompson room or exit the building.
*We will figure it out! – Just enjoy the exercise and the game! Don’t forget your filled water bottle!
****Our friend Izzy Ross (retired Day Lady) is celebrating her 90th birthday this Thursday! If you wish to bring a card for her on Tuesday or Thursday, Marg and I will take it over to her place on Thursday.****
