Before I get into everything I want to welcome everyone to the 2016-17 Season of the Open League at Dundas Valley! We have a LOT of new teams this season which means a bunch of adjustments to the league. Read on for more information:
BUT FIRST, SOME BORING (but important) ADMIN STUFF:
Game Result Submissions:
Unless I have personally collected your game results, ALL results should be sent electronically, either by email or text message, using the information above. Please include your team name and final scores. Results and statistics are updated immediately on the website so the faster you get them in the faster the site gets updated!
Please check the team page on the website to ensure that all spelling is correct and that all members of your team are accounted for. Some of the writing on the signup sheet is very tough to read!
AND NOW, THE EXCITING (to me) LEAGUE STUFF:
Teams / Schedules:
We have 27 teams this year! BUT we also have a yet-to-signup 28th(!) team that is in desperate need of a 4th fulltime player before they can commit to the season. If you know of an individual who is looking to curl this season in the Open League but didn’t make it on a team PLEASE let me know so we can get that spot filled. It would be fantastic to have 28 teams!
Open League curling starts October 12th and 13th this year. Schedules will be posted on October 9th or 10th to allow for any last minute teams to signup. Once posted please check your schedule often prior to game time in case of a last minute adjustment.
Also a quick reminder that all non-returning teams are placed in either C Flyte division initially regardless of skill level.
Rule Changes / Format Changes:
With 27+ teams comes some long awaited adjustments to the league format. See the attached files for a visual explanation – otherwise here is my best attempt at a quick and dirty explanation:
26 or 27 teams: B Flyte will increase to 8 teams with the top 2 teams moving to A Flyte and the bottom 4 teams moving to C Flyte after each session. In each C Flyte Division the top 2 teams will move to B Flyte after each session.
28 to 33 teams: B Flyte will split to two divisions (B1 and B2) with the top 1 team moving to A Flyte and the bottom 2 teams moving to C Flyte after each session. In each C Flyte Division the top 2 teams will move to B Flyte after each session.
In regards to rules, they’ve been slightly updated to reflect the new size of the league as well as to clarify some sparing rules. As always, I recommend everyone take a quick look at the rules prior to the start of the season!
Finally, a big thank you to McNally Construction for being the Title sponsor of the league this season and thank you to Clean Sheet Curling (Norm Gervais and Sheilagh Lamb) for continuing to provide web hosting for the league. Of course we’re always looking for additional sponsors to help grow the league and enable us to run more fun events so if you are interested please contact me for more information.
