Welcome to the 2018-19 Season of the Dundas Valley Open League! We’re changing up a few long-standing rules and traditions this year, so please read this (occasionally boring) message in its entirety!
MEMORIZE THIS:
Game Result Submissions:
Please submit all results electronically (winner and final score), either by email or text message, using the information on the side of this page. All information on the website is updated instantly as scores are submitted, so get them in quick!
Team Information:
Please check the team page on the website to ensure that all spelling is correct and team members are present. Some of the writing on the signup sheet is very tough to read!
Free Agents:
Do you need an extra player? Please let me know and I’ll send you their contact info!
LEAGUE INFORMATION:
Rule Changes:
5-Rock Free Guard Zone – Starting immediately we will be adopting the 5-Rock rule for all Open League games. This generally means more rocks in play (and more exciting comebacks), so make sure to play “ready curling” on the ice so that you don’t get caught by the timeclock!
Hair Brooms – As of this season, hair brooms are banned from all Dundas Valley leagues. This includes using it as both a sweeping device AND delivery aid.
As always, it’s a great idea to brush up on the league rules!
League Calendar:
Obviously none of this is set in stone but should give you a pretty good guideline for this season.
Pre-season Practice Ice / Training – October 9th to October 13th
Series 1 – October 17th to November 15th
Series 2 – November 21st to December 20th
Series 3 – January 2nd to February 7th (No Curling Jan 16-17: Hamilton Districts)
Series 4 – February 13th to March 14th
“Snow Day” Backup Weeks / Hotshots – March 20th to March 28th
Playoffs (Quarterfinals) – April 3-4
Playoffs (Semifinals) – April 10-11
Playoffs (Finals) – FRIDAY, April 12th
Big difference this year is the date of the finals. We are hoping to take our already great curling finals night, move it to Friday to avoid early bedtimes, and expand it to an all leagues curling party in which our games will be featured. More details to come later in the season. PENCIL IN THAT DATE NOW. NO EXCUSES.
League Format / General Scheduling:
We are currently sitting at 32 teams this season which means we will once again be playing Wednesday’s and Thursdays at BOTH 645pm and 900pm. As most teams discovered last year, a slightly unfortunate side effect of this is that it increases the number of 9pm games league-wide. On average most teams will see two 9pm games per series, a handful of lucky teams with one, and a handful of unlucky teams with three. As always, I’ll do my best to balance all teams across all four time slots as evenly as possible.
NEW! Another adjustment for this season will be a significant reduction in accommodating scheduling requests. Unfortunately, as the league continues to grow, it has become much more challenging to accommodate requests without noticeably altering other teams’ schedules.
On a positive note, the schedules for Series 1 should be released sometime during the week of October 9th in order to allow any last minute teams to enter! Should we reach 34+ teams, I’ll send out an additional email as the league format will adjust to two A, B, and C flytes.
THANK THESE PEOPLE:
Finally, a big thank you to McNally Construction for being the title sponsor and their continued support of this league. A new thank you to itscurling.com for providing webhosting to the league. We’re always looking for additional sponsors (I have a lot of ideas) so if you or your company is interested, let’s talk!
As always, have a great season and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on the ice!
Good curling!
