First of all a big thank you to our Sponsors Home Renovations by Barbara (Barb Boag) and Clean Sheet Curling (Sheilah and Norm Gervais). We have, without a doubt, one of the best leagues in the district and sponsors like them enable us to continue to provide a top quality experience!
A big congratulations to all of our champions this season:
Club Champions: K. Blonski
A Flyte Champions: M. Blonski
B Flyte Champions: Snell
C Flyte Champions: Styles
D Flyte Champions: Tkachuck
I will post the pictures of all our champions as soon as I get them!
Accomplishments:
We had a lot of teams break into the Top 10 Team Records list this season! Particular congratulations go to Team K. Blonski with 17 wins, tying them with the second most wins of all time, Team Sedgwick for their 9 game winning streak, again tying them for second all time, and lastly team Shiraishi for the 2.03 PF vs PA record, which is the best ever!
Hot Shots:
This year was the first year that we ran the Team Hot Shots competition – 20 of our 23 teams participated in what turned out to be a very entertaining event. I was originally concerned that the A Flyte teams would run away with the top prizes, but turns out that most of them are overrated; 4 of the 6 A Flyte teams finished in the bottom half of the overall standings. Congratulations to our winners: Teams Styles, Boag, B. Knapp, Goll and Vollick! We will certainly be running another Hot Shots Event next year, so make sure to practice up!
Next Year:
While this may only be exciting to me, we will have a new website for the upcoming season! It’s been completely rebuilt with mobile viewing in mind, so that means it will be fully responsive on your phones and tablets – no more zooming required! I’m also strongly considering running a Calcutta for the playoffs next year as an added ripple to change things up – expect an email about that next season to gauge interest!
In club news, we’ll have two new bonspiels next season: The Hunger Games Spiel (Open Event) and the Men’s Beer Spiel (Mens – shockingly). I’m particularly excited to announce that we’ll also be running a 5-week trial Doubles League (Open) that uses a format that I believe is unique to curling. Look for signups and more information at the Open House in September!
Finally, I want to thank everyone who participated in the league this season and I want to encourage everyone to to tell their friends and get them playing in the league. While it is a little competitive, it’s primarily about playing with good friends and having a good time!
Thanks again to everyone and we’ll see you at the Open House on September 30th.
